Pupils who have been absent from school should bring a note signed by a parent/guardian briefly explaining the reason for absence and if possible bring, in advance, an appointment card if absence is due to a dental or medical appointment etc. Absence for appointments for medical treatment are noted as such in the attendance register.
All absences except for medical purposes require the prior consent of the Headteacher. This includes holidays taken in term time. Because of the disruptive effect on a pupil's education, parents are advised to avoid this except in the most unusual circumstances and then only after consultation with pastoral staff.
Obviously we want your daughter to be in school but if she is ill then the best place for her is in the comfort of your own home where she can have the rest, care and attention that we could not possibly provide. Please telephone us on the first day of absence to let us know that your daughter/ward will not be in school.
It is essential that you telephone before 9.30am on the absence hotline 0151 648 9065, this is a twenty-four hours answering service. If we have not heard from you the school's automated truancy system will phone home and the parent/carer's mobile telephone numbers at intervals throughout the day until contact has been made. If the absence continues please keep the school informed. In certain circumstances it may be possible for work to be sent home.
We carefully monitor attendance and we will contact you if we have any concerns over your daughter's/ward's attendance.
