As part of our Sports College status this year has seen the introduction of a joint sixth form recreational afternoon. Students are encouraged to sign up for a number of different recreational activities which take place on a Wednesday afternoon. Activities currently include Football, Yoga, Health and Fitness and the Community Sports Leader Award (CSLA)
Activities tend to run for 6-8 weeks and are allocated on a first come first served basis. External coaches from the community are also used to run sessions in Judo, Combat Fitness and First Aid. Opportunities also exist throughout the year in which students can gain external coaching qualifications. These courses are often seen as the first rung on the coaching ladder and will enable students to gain paid employment in various sporting organisations throughout the country.
At the end of each term students who have attended all the Wednesday afternoon sessions get the opportunity to participate in an off-site activity. Off-site activities currently include trips such as ten pin bowling and indoor climbing.
