Advanced Diplomas

An Advanced Diploma is equivalent to 3.5 A-levels

  • Society, Health and Development
  • Business and Finance

The Business, Administration and Finance Advanced Diploma and the Society, Health and Development Advanced Diploma are new qualifications that provide an exciting and challenging programme of learning for young people. Representatives from education and employment have been brought together to develop these Diplomas and as a result they have been designed to prepare students for life, learning and work. They provide an opportunity to research, analyse, evaluate and explore in depth the principles and practices of your chosen diploma area.  The Advanced Diploma is comprised of several components all of which must be passed to receive the full Advanced Diploma:

  • Principal Learning – the background knowledge needed for the subject;
  • An extended project – on a topic of the students own choice;
  • Functional skills tests in English, Mathematics, ICT;
  • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills – completed throughout the course;
  • Work experience – 20 days;
  • Additional Learning – an additional A level subject of the students own choice.

If a student completes and passes all the component parts with the exception of the Additional Learning then a Progression Diploma is awarded.

If a student fails to complete or pass other components of the Diploma then a record of those individual components passed is issued. All the component parts are worth UCAS points and are accepted and recognised by Higher Education Institutions and employers.
