Pensby High School for Girls

Basketball

The Basketball Jets have been in coaching Year 7 classes. They have had 3 weeks coaching culminating in 3 versus 3 tournaments in school.

The winners of this tournament were:

  • Ellie Moore 7RS
  • Millie Powell 7RS
  • Sian Davies 7GH
  • Lauren Bicket 7RS

We went through to a regional competition held at Chester Jets home stadium.

The girls played in the competition and won the final with over 800 people watching them play! They then watched the Chester jets play. They got presented with a medal each and a huge cup to take home. They are now through to the National BBL play off final weekend at Birmingham NEC in front of 8000 people. Good luck girls. We support you 100%.

Ski Trip

The Ski Trip is upon us again in the first week of the Easter Holidays. All the girls and staff are really excited now and the snow reports are fantastic! All the girls are attending Ski fit sessions in school to get them set and ready for the fabulous trip ahead.

Girls Active Trip to Leasowe Recreation Centre

Sixteen Year 10 girls have been selected to attend a Girls Active Taster Day at Leasowe recreation Centre on Tuesday 17th March. The day consists of several workshops including street dance, football, recreation wall, squash, aerobics and time to use the dance mats. The girls will then have the opportunity to plan and discuss ways in which our school Key Stage 4 PE curriculum could be tailored to their needs and interests.

Oaklands Trip

This year we have been allocated a week at the Oaklands Outdoor Centre in the Conwy Valley, North Wales. Activities available will include gorge walking, abseiling, rock climbing, canoeing, kayaking and sailing. Twenty five Year 9 girls have already secured a place on the trip and there are only a few places remaining. This is a fantastic opportunity for our girls to experience outdoor and adventurous activities in a safe and secure but beautiful environment. Any Year 9 girls are welcome on the trip – please see Mrs Twisty in the PE department for more information.

Sports Unlimited

'Sport Unlimited' is the initiative of Sport England to get more children and young people taking part in sports that interest them most outside of school.

This year we have had the opportunity to bid for funds to employ coaches to run some of our extra curricular clubs. Trampolining club and Gymnastics Club (Mondays) have run this term with lots of Year 7, 8 and 9 pupils taking part and enjoying themselves immensely. GCSE pupils were also able to go rock climbing for 8 weeks during autumn term which helped to improve their grades.

The new Sports Unlimited club for the Summer term is currently being arranged – look out for posters in the PE department and watch this space during the nest few weeks.

The School Sports Co-ordinator Scheme (SSCO)

The School Sports Co-ordinator Scheme is a key part of the Government's plan to provide more and better physical education (PE) and sporting opportunities for young people. Around the country are several School Sports Co-ordinator Partnerships with a Specialist Sports College at the hub and a Partnership Development Manager. Within the partnership are a number of Secondary Schools, each with a School Sports Co-ordinator. Then every secondary school has its own cluster of Primary Schools, each with a Primary Link Teacher. The scheme aims to offer sporting opportunity to the young and training for adults.
